Catholic Youth grows in discipleship, Spirituality and leadership

Karachi: March 30, 2017. (By Ayyaz Gulzar) Jesus Youth Pakistan (JYP) in collaboration with Catholic Youth Commission Karachi (CYCK) organized six weeks formation course entitled “LIFESTYLE 2017. This training program with the tagline ‘Discipleship training program’ is designed to help Catholic Youth to grow in discipleship, spirituality and Church Leadership. The sessions conducted were Personal Prayer, Word of God, Sacramental Life, Fellowship, Evangelization, Praise and Worship and Service (Option for poor). This training program was commenced on February 19th with a session on personal prayer conducted by Ms. Shabnam John, coordinator JYP Karachi. She highlighted the importance of personal prayer and the having personal relationship with God through prayers. Mr. Amos Suneel, Director JYP Formation desk conducted the 2nd session entitled ‘fellowship’ on February 26th. He explained attendees about the community life in the Church and its importance. Session on ‘Sacramental life was held on March 5; Fr. Shahzad Arshad explained Jesus’ idea historical, tangible and practical aspect of Sacraments. Using the quotations of Saints He highlighted the importance of Sacrament of reconciliation and Eucharistic Adoration. His session ended with the Eucharistic Adoration led by JYP team. On March 12, Mr. Daniel Bashir, Youth Coordinator JYP conducted session on the topic ‘Evangelization’. He focused on the personal encounter with Christ and testimonial approach of good news. After discussing the process of Evangelization, He sent attendees to out in the St. Patrick’s Cathedral to share their faith experience and testimonies with the parishioners in the Cathedral ground. Archbishop (Emeritus) Evarist Pinto conducted a Session on the ‘Word of God’ on March 19. He commenced his session with an introduction of Gospel according to St. Matthew, He also explained about the readers, purpose, structure and message of the Gospel. After which he taught ‘Lectio Divina’ to the attendees and guided them to practice it in groups. Due to his expertise attendees easily followed the steps of Lectio Divina. On the final day of the training program i.e. March 26th, Mr. Ayyaz Gulzar, Coordinator JYP conducted Sessions on ‘Praise and Worship’ and ‘Service (Option for Poor). In the first session he taught attendees, how to lead people in Praise and Worship by following stages of ‘Praise and Worship’ and vibrantly using elements of Praise and Worship. In the second session of the day Mr. Ayyaz Gulzar, Ms. Albina Joseph and Mr. Moses Rohel explained about ‘Service’ the sixth pillar of JY spirituality that focuses on helping the spiritually, physically and financially poor. They helped youth to develop understanding about their services for the Church and the Community and guided them in light of the following question ‘Why to serve?’ and ‘Who to serve?’ In the closing ceremony of the program attendees were awarded with the certificate of participation. On behalf of JYP and CYCK, Mr. Daniel Bashir in his closing remarks congratulate all the attendees and thanked Fr. Mario Rodrigues and CYCK for accepting JYP proposal to be collaborators for this program and for providing various facilities for the resource persons, Little Flower Nursery administration and staff for providing facilities for making this program a success, Parish Priests and Pastoral teams of various parishes for sending youth, supporting team for LIFESTYLE 2017, Steffen Pervaiz for photography and all their active participation. 89 members of JYP and CYCK registered for the program and 71 were awarded with the certificates.
