Sheikhupura: May 17, 2017. (PCP) A senior lady lawyer, Alia Shehzadi, was gunned down by two assailants in city’s Hiran Minar Road area on Tuesday. She was waiting for a conveyance just outside her home alongside Hiran Minar Road to reach the District Courts when two persons on motorbike opened fire on her and fled. She died on the spot. Around two months back, a local rights lawyer, Malik Saleem Latif, was gunned down near Nankana Sahib. He was on his way to a local court on a motorbike along with his son Advocate Farhan, when the former was targeted and shot at by "unidentified attackers". The deceased was a relative of Nobel laureate Abdus Salam. A banned outfit in a statement said that Advocate Malik Saleem Latif had been targeted: “for spreading Ahmadi beliefs in the region”. The same group has also been threatening to kill prominent Christian lawyer Advocate Sardar Mushtaq Gill who heads LEAD. The Christian lawyer had survived a similar attack, and was left with no other option but to leave the country.
