Asia Bibi appeal hearing is test case for Chief Justice of Pakistan Supreme Court

Karachi: April 23, 2018. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, Founder of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have said in a statement issued by Central Secretariat of PCC that he has no high hopes from Chief Justice Saqib Nisar of Supreme Court of Pakistan that he will ensure justice in Asia Bibi appeal hearing case and order to release her from prison. Asia Bibi, a Christian mother of five, is in jail from about 9 years when she was arrested on blasphemy charges on drinking water from cup in which her c0-worker Muslim women drink during collecting berries from fields. Asia Bibi was arrested and sentenced to death. Asia Bibi appealed her death sentenced in Lahore High Court which was upheld and then she approached Supreme Court of Pakistan. In October 2016, Supreme Court set hearing date of appeal of Asia Bibi death sentence by Three Member Bench of Supreme Court Justices but one Justice named Mohammad Iqbal Hameed Ur Rehman decided not be part of hearing only few hours before case hearing on which Bench was unable to proceed. Later, Attorneys on case of Asia Bibi appealed for early hearing but same was declined by Chief Justice of Supreme Court. During Suo-Mutto case hearing remarks, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar expressed his intention to hear Asia Bibi Case in this week for which all eyes are on Supreme Court. Dr. Nazir Bhatti said that Chief Justice Saqib Nisar is highly involved in Judicial Activism and its impression in general public of Pakistan that he acts on directives of some establishment sections to fail democratic government and to snatch executive powers to pave way to win forthcoming elections by elements whom Pakistan Army supports. Nazir Bhatti said in present situation Christian are not expecting from Chief Justice Saqib Nisar that he will take up and issue any verdict in Asia Bibi appeal hearing case. PCC Chief added that I doubt that CJ will order re-trial of Asia Bibi case which means to keep her more years in jail instead of ordering her release. When Sheikhupra District and Session Court Judge issued verdict of death sentence in 2010 and her appeal was up held by Lahore High Court, the Governor of Punjab Salman Taseer went in jail to meet Asia Bibi and expressed intention to file her clemency appeal with President of Pakistan on which one of his body guard Mohammad Mumtaz Qadri killed him in 2011 in capital city Islamabad. The killer of Salman Taseer who was on his official guard duty when he sprayed volley of bullets accusing him of blasphemy on meeting Asia Bibi. The killer Mumtaz Qadri was treated like hero by Muslim legal fraternity who sprayed rose petals on him during his court appearances in Islamabad Courts to face trail of killing Governor Salman Taseer. Some Islamic Extremist groups supported by Pakistan Army have adopted killer Mumtaz Qadri as their hero who raised weapon to protect honor of their Prophet Muhammad and killed blasphemer Governor Salman Taseer who was a practicing Muslim. One of Islamic extremist group funded and protected by Pakistan Army led by one Muslim Cleric Khadim Rizvi of TLYR are instrumental in attacking Christian colonies and accusing few Christian of blasphemy from last six months. “In such situation Asia Bibi will not receive Justice from Supreme Court if appeal is heard in this or next week but Present Chief Justice will try to play role to keep her more in jail with ordering re-trial” said Nazir Bhatti
