A Capuchin delegation Visits Lahore University


Lahore: March 1, 2019. (Haroon Gill) A Capuchin delegation led by Fr. Benedict Ayodi OFM Cap. and Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap.  participated youth conference at University of Lahore Feb 28, 2019 where a good number of university faculty members and the students were present. ,

Fr. Benedict Ayodi OFM Cap spoke on the topic of “Encounter of St Francis with Sultan of Egypt (1219 – 2019) and importance of Interfaith Dialogue Today”.  He said that St. Francis of Assisi and the Sultan of Egypt met in the midst of war and conflict. They accepted and listened to each other which was the start of dialogue of peace, harmony, solidarity and friendship. He said that there is a need for the followers of all the religions to adopt the policy of forbearance, tolerance, patience and dialogue.  He further stated on the need of promoting the culture of dialogue to bridge the gap among different religious sects, groups and communities in order to establish peace, justice, equality and love for humanity. He said that interfaith dialogue is about coming to a mutual understanding which allows us to deepen our faith through encountering the other as we learn from each other’s religious traditions, faiths, and experiences. He encouraged the university faculty members and students to play their powerful role to promote peace, harmony and solidarity in the society.  The faculty members and students of the university appreciated Fr. Benedict for his work and talk.

After the conference Fr. Benedict Ayodi OFM Cap planted an Olive tree in the university along Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap, Custos of the Capuchins in Pakistan, Mr. Awais Raoof, chairman, Board of Governors, Dr. Mujahid Kamran, rector of University of Lahore. Maulana Mufti Ashiq Hussain. Fr. Shahzad Khokher OFM Cap. Fr. Lazar Aslam OMF Cap. Fr. Faisal Francis OFM Cap,   Fr. Sunil Irfan OFM Cap as a symbol of interfaith peace, harmony and dialogue.

 Mr. Awais Raoof, chairman, Board of Governors expressed his wonderful experience of encountering Christians in Africa and he appreciated the work of Fr. Benedict Ayodi OFM Cap He assured his full support for the promotion of interfaith dialogue. Dr. Mujahid Kamran, rector of University of Lahore said that it is not the religions cause war and conflict but it is the wealthier classes of societies. He pledged that the University of Lahore will continue to play its role for a better and peaceful society. 

 The University of Lahore is one of the leading private universities in Pakistan which was founded in 1999. It has approximate students’ body of 40 thousand.  The main campus of the university is located in Lahore and other campuses are in the different parts of the country.
