Naveed Walter shared that being latest example, Fiza’s FIR has registered in the Police Station of District Toba Tek Singh by her father Afran Masih since 31 May 2022 against know abductors Adil Muhammad and five other residents of the victim’s village of Tehsil & District Toba Tek Singh but not actions has taken yet against them. While the Fiza’s two street fellows named Imran Sarwar and Waqas Masih have become the witnesses of incident. Both saw the abductors taking Fiza Arfan forcefully through the white car and have given their statements to court and police, he added.

Arfan Masih stated in FIR that on 29 May 2022 when he was at his workplace while his wife Rehana was sick at home, the main abductor Adil Muhammad with supporters came and abducted her on gunpoint. The abductors ran away through a white car. Thy also looted the jewelry, the family saved for Fiza’s elder sister wedding and the cash they got a loan to renovate their house during current rainy seasons, he added.

Arfan Masih stated further that after he returned back to home, got the details from family and witnesses, he contacted the abductor’s family for knowing them being street fellows. Arfan Masih asked the whereabouts of Fiza and demands to return her back to home. Adil Muhammad and family admits but refused to return back Fiza claiming that the girl has converted to Islam and got married willingly (but both documents are of 31 May 2022 from an Islamic Seminary of Faisalabad) .

Due to the helpless situation and threats, Arfan Masih with his wife Rehana Afran contacted with HRFP through HRFP’s REAT Helpline (0800-09494) and shared about the incident and situation for urgent helps.

After HRFP team’s fact findings the victim’s family by visiting their home in the village of Toba Tek Singh and observing an issue of religious persecution, their assisting has started through advocacy, legal, financial and moral support throughout.

Arfan Masih stated in the recent court hearing of 28 July 2022 that Adil Muhammad with allies have been harassing her from last three months before abduction and still he and family are under pressure to finish the case against them

In response of Fiza’s fake willing statements that had processed through judicial Magistrate, District & Session Court and Lahore High Court since 06 June 2022 by Adil Muhammad, HRFP with victim’s family and legal counsels has challenged and defending all.

Naveed Walter said that in minority girls’ abductions cases, their families mostly become discouraged in attempts to raise the problem, accessing the justice and getting back the daughters to homes due to strong alliance of perpetrators with religious and political authorities.

Moreover, the legal proceedings become also challenging sometimes due to existing laws and unavailability of legal resources to most of the victim’s families. Most of the times the police assumptions for the willingness of girls before investigating and during submitting their reports to courts is also a main factor of such failures, Naveed Walter added.

Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) rose that the minors under 18 could not be married with any justification according to the law. A recent high-profile case of Karachi about Dua & Zaheer of Muslim couple is an example where her age is examined multiply through medical tests and court processed on the line of age, so this line could also be followed in minority girls' cases as well, Naveed Walter demands.
