Subject:        Publishing the distributing textbooks for the subject of Religious Education on Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, Baha’i, Zoroastrianism, Buddhism and Kalasha faiths

Your Excellency,

Greetings and peace from Pakistan Minorities Teachers’ Association (PMTA).

PMTA highly appreciates National Curriculum Council Secretariat, MoFEPT, Government of Pakistan that has prepared curriculum on Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, Baha’i, Zoroastrianism, Buddhism and Kalasha faiths to guarantee religious freedom guaranteed in article 20 and article 22 and equal citizenship guaranteed in article 25 of the constitution of Pakistan with the assistance of the stakeholders of these religions. Now model textbooks prepared by the stakeholders of above-mentioned religions are in the process of publishing. NCC has already sent the draft of the model textbooks to your good offices under 18th constitutional amendments on the constitution of Pakistan 1973.                                                  .

Recommendations

·         Review, publish and distribute free these textbooks before the end of summer vacation as the academic session has already started in April 2023.

·         It is suggested to have the census of the students in the public and private schools and publish these textbooks accordingly.

With best regards.

PMTA is making efforts since 2004 for education reforms through advocacy, lobbying and analyses on the textbooks of Pakistan to promote diversity and peaceful coexistence through the Pakistani education system.. Pakistani religious minorities are not enjoying fully constitutionally their civil and political rights and they are facing challenges of equal citizenship, equal rights and equal opportunities. Due to religious persecution lives, beliefs, families and properties of religious minorities are always at risk. Pakistani public sector education system  promotes violence, intolerance, hatred and extremism through the language and images of the textbooks against non-Islamic religions, non-Muslims  and non-Islamic Civilizations. Thus Pakistani religious minorities become the direct target of the intolerance and extremism that Pakistani education system promotes.
