HRFP condemned the attack on Jamil Masih & family; demands for protections and justice:

Faisalabad: Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) condemned the attack on Jamil Masih & family and demands for their protections and justice.

The attack occurred on Jamil Masih aged 58 and family on 2 May 2023 in village Chak 269 of district Toba Tek Singh. During attack Jamil Masih was at workplace where he was doing a loburer work.

FIR was registered with intentionally delaying until 8 May 2023. Jamil Masih stated in FIR that the perpetrators Muhammad Zeeshan, Muhammad Noman, Sami Ullah, Muhammad Azhar with an unknown entered their home forcefully and subjected the family members to violence.

While the perpetrators were dragging females Nusrat Bibi and Rukhsana Bibi, they escaped but a son of Jamil Masih named Umer Masih 19, was caught.

The perpetrators took Umer Masih to their farmhouse and beaten him up. The perpetrators pulled his hair out from head and face to make him and family feel ashamed in front of villagers.

When this was happening with Umer Masih, the local residents Saleem Masih and Nabeel Masih saw the scene. They went ahead and asked the reason of violence and requested the perpetrators to leave Umer Masih before he died. The perpetrators blamed that Umer has stolen fodder from their farms.

The perpetrators let him go only on a condition that he has to tell and force his father, Jamil Masih to fulfill their demands. While leaving Umer, the perpetrators used abusive language and derogatory words not only against Umer Masih & family but also against Christians, both witnesses shared with HRFP during fact finding visit to family on the site of incident.

Jamil Masih visited HRFP office, shared the details and reasons for the attacks on Christians. Jamil Masih also shared that who, how and why the perpetrators have been victimizing them from some time. The perpetrators also supported by religious and political leaders as well, Jamil Masih added in his interview to HRFP.  The case is in the proceedings of district and session court of Toba Tek Singh. HRFP ensured the continuity of support to them.                                                                                                                   

Naveed Walter president of Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) urged to make sure the protection of victims and bring the perpetrators to justice as none of the attackers has been arrested till date, he added.

Naveed Walter said that being influential the police are not taking actions against them. The life threats to Jamil Masih, family and local Christians are continued, and they are facing extreme life threats and discriminations, Naveed Walter added.
