Karachi: Cardinal Joseph Coutts, Archbishop Emeritus of Karachi, was honored with Pakistan’s Tamgha-e-Imtiaz award on March 23, 2025, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to interfaith harmony, social welfare, and the Christian community. The Tamgha-e-Imtiaz is one of Pakistan’s highest civilian honors, awarded to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service to the nation.

Born on July 21, 1945, in Amritsar, British India, Cardinal Coutts has dedicated his life to fostering dialogue among various religious communities and advocating for minority rights in Pakistan. His initiatives have significantly improved healthcare, education, and community well-being across the country.

In his remarks, President Asif Ali Zardari commended Cardinal Coutts’ efforts, stating that his service to humanity and his role in bringing different faiths together serve as an inspiration for all Pakistanis.

Cardinal Coutts’ recognition underscores the vital role religious leaders play in promoting national unity and peace in Pakistan.
