Attempted Attack on Bethanya Church in Kasur Foiled: LEAD Ministries Condemn the Incident. Report by Sardar Mushtaq Gill
Kasur, Punjab, Pakistan - April 6, 2025: In a disturbing late-night incident, two masked assailants attempted to set fire to Bethanya Church, located in Gulshan Colony, Jambar Khurd, Tehsil Pattoki, District Kasur. The attack took place at approximately 12:24 AM on April 6, 2025, while the church was under the pastoral care of Tanvir Boota.
According to reports, the assailants tried to ignite a fire using petrol in an effort to destroy the church. However, their plans were thwarted when Tanvir Boota became aware of the situation and inquired about the attackers' intentions. Upon being confronted, the perpetrators fled into the darkness of the night.
The pastor immediately informed local law enforcement, prompting the swift registration of a case under FIR No. 953/25. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident and are working to identify the unknown assailants.
The attack has sparked widespread condemnation, with religious leaders and human rights advocates calling for enhanced protection measures for religious minorities in Pakistan. Sardar Mushtaq Gill, the Founder of LEAD Ministries, expressed outrage over the attempted attack. He emphasized the need for greater vigilance and immediate action to protect places of worship from extremist threats.
Pastor Imran Amanat, along with other prominent figures from LEAD Ministries Pakistan, also strongly condemned the incident, stating that attacks on Christian communities and churches, particularly during the Easter period, have been a growing concern in recent years. Amanat called on the government and law enforcement agencies to take urgent steps to safeguard churches and their congregations from the increasing threat posed by religious hardliners.
“Such incidents are a stark reminder of the persistent threats faced by Christian communities in Pakistan. We urge authorities to ensure the safety of our places of worship and to take stronger action against those who seek to harm religious minorities,” said Amanat.
LEAD Ministries Pakistan, an advocacy group dedicated to the rights of persecuted Christians in the country, has been at the forefront of highlighting issues related to religious intolerance and the protection of minorities in Pakistan. The organization continues to call for justice and accountability and for the safety and security of Christians who are increasingly vulnerable to acts of extremism.
As the investigation into the attack unfolds, the local Christian community, along with human rights organizations, remains hopeful that those responsible for the attempt will be brought to justice and that steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future
