Sialkot, Pakistan: A terrifying ordeal for one young Christian girl has turned into a story of justice, resilience, and hope—thanks to the determined support of the British Asian Christian Association (BACA). 

On 9th January 2025, 14-year-old Sunaiha Sharif was abducted from her home in Korpur village, Sialkot, Pakistan. Her abductors—Samina Bibi and her daughter Amina Bibi—had recently moved into the neighbourhood and posed as poor women in need of help. The Sharif family, motivated by Christian compassion, shared food and kindness with the new neighbours. But that kindness was cruelly exploited. 

On the evening of the abduction, Amina persuaded Sunaiha’s mother to allow her daughter to accompany her to a nearby shop. Sunaiha never returned. A neighbour soon informed the family that unknown men had driven away with the girls in a van. When confronted, Samina Bibi feigned innocence and claimed her own daughter was also missing. Suspicious, Sunaiha’s parents took her to Muradpur Police Station—where an initial investigation uncovered links between the abductors and prostitution. 

Despite the fear and pain, Sonam and Sharif Masih remained steadfast in their mission to rescue their daughter.” 

Sonam with her husband Sharif Masih never gave up the challenge of bringing their abducted daughetr home. 

Despite filing a First Information Report (FIR), police action was initially slow and ineffective. It was only after BACA intervened—hiring a private advocate to represent the family—that the case was treated with the urgency it deserved. Under legal pressure, police intensified their investigations, leading to the arrest of Samina Bibi and her husband, Muhammad Shabir. Two weeks later, the couple revealed Sunaiha’s whereabouts, and police conducted a successful raid in Mandi Bahauddin, almost 100 miles away from Sialkot, recovering Sunaiha from captivity. 

Sharif Masih, Sunaiha’s father, told BACA: 

“My daughter leapt to me and cried aloud when she saw me and told me how she was kidnapped and taken to another city. I am thankful to God for He kept my daughter safe, and she came back to us safely.” 

Upon her return, BACA’s commitment did not end with her rescue. The family were provided with essential financial support during this traumatic time, including help with living expenses while they remained focused on healing and pursuing justice. Understanding the vulnerability that had led to Sunaiha’s abduction, BACA also helped facilitate her marriage to ‘a trusted Christian man from a good family’ in Karachi in April, before Easter—ensuring she would be surrounded by loving family and safeguarded against future threats. 

Rescued and protected, Sunaiha is now happily married to a Christian man who cherishes her 

Thanks to BACA’s continued support, Sunaiha is now living a peaceful and happy life with her husband. Her abductors, meanwhile, are facing trial in Sialkot District Court for their crimes. 

Juliet Chowdhry, Trustee of the British Asian Christian Association, shared: 

“Sunaiha’s story is one of cruelty, betrayal—and also of hope. Too often, Christian girls in Pakistan are abducted and trafficked with impunity. But in this case, legal advocacy funded by BACA changed the course of events. Our help ensured police accountability, supported a devastated family through financial hardship, and enabled a safe and stable future for a young girl who had been so gravely wronged. BACA will always stand by the most vulnerable, and we will not rest while injustice reigns.” 

Sunaiha’s journey from captivity to freedom highlights both the dangers faced by minority communities in Pakistan and the impact that sustained, practical support can make. BACA’s intervention not only brought a child home but also restored a family’s dignity, resilience, and future.
