In the wake of Pakistan’s devastating floods, the British Asian Christian Association (BACA) has stepped in to provide life-saving aid to families in Bhikiwind, Kasur. Hundreds of Christians and Muslims have now received food, clean water, and urgent medical care through our emergency response. 

A Crisis on an Unimaginable Scale 

This year’s floods have caused destruction on a massive level. More than 1,000 lives have been lost, over 12,500 homes destroyed, and millions displaced. Vast tracts of farmland and livestock have been swept away, leaving families in despair. Health experts have also warned of waterborne diseases like cholera, malaria, and dengue spreading rapidly in the affected areas. 

Bhikiwind, a village on the edge of the River Sutlej, was among the hardest hit. Flooding began on 23rd August and lasted until mid-September, forcing families to flee into makeshift camps along the embankments. 

BACA Responds with Food and Comfort 

On 2nd September, the BACA team reached the stranded Christian community of Bhikiwind, who had set up temporary tents near Talwar check post. Our officers prayed with the families, listened to their stories, and distributed food and clean water. For many, it was the first relief they had received since the floods began. 

Just days later, on 5th September, our team braved dangerous floodwaters again to deliver food packets and flour bags, ensuring no one was left without basic sustenance. 

A Medical Emergency Emerges 

By mid-September, stagnant pools of water left behind by the floods had become breeding grounds for mosquitos. Fever, skin infections, and suspected cases of malaria and dengue began to spread. Local resident Khalid Masih reached out to BACA for urgent help: 

“The children are suffering with fever and skin itching and need medicine immediately.” 

On 12th September, BACA organised a one-day medical camp at the home of a local resident, hosted by Pastor Basharat Masih. The medical team, led by Dr. Subtain, nurse Asia Bibi, and dispenser Aqeel Masih, treated hundreds of patients. Medicines were distributed freely, blood samples taken from severe cases, and both Christian and Muslim families received compassionate care.

“Medical help was urgently needed in Bhikiwind, and BACA answered our call with compassion and care. We are deeply grateful to BACA and its generous donors for bringing hope and healing when we needed it most. God bless you.”

The floods did not discriminate, and neither did our aid. Both Christians and Muslims were treated side by side at the camp, standing as a testimony of compassion and solidarity in the face of disaster.
