New York, USA: Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) President, Naveed Walter, spoke at United Nations Headquarters in New York and raised voice for the marginalized groups and religious minorities of Pakistan. Naveed Walter attends the UN high level political forum following an official invitation and spoke at one of the United Nations' premier global platforms for reviewing progress toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The 2026 Forum was held under the theme, "Transformative, equitable, innovative and coordinated actions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for a sustainable future for all." Naveed Walter participated in official sessions, side events, policy dialogues, networking meetings, and discussions with representatives of governments, United Nations agencies, diplomatic missions, civil society organizations, faith-based organizations, development partners, and international human rights advocates.
During different discussions and speaking, Naveed Walter highlighted the importance of integrating human rights principles into sustainable development policies and emphasized that the principle of "Leaving No One Behind" must include religious minorities and marginalized communities. CSOs and their network representatives of above 500 groups agreed to make religious freedom in their priorities while struggling to implement the Sustainable Development Goals and achieving agenda together 2030. Naveed Walter added that the UN forums provide an important opportunity to amplify the voices of Pakistan's marginalized, and vulnerable communities before the international community. Sustainable development cannot be achieved while discrimination, exclusion, religious persecution, and human rights violations continue to affect vulnerable communities. The commitment to 'Leaving No One Behind' must be transformed into practical actions that ensure equality, justice, protection, and dignity for everyone.
Naveed Walter president HRFP also shared his insightful on this year's priority Sustainable Development Goals under review in General Assembly, for every person’s basic human rights through special focusing on Partnerships for the Goals, engaging voices for the common cause. He emphasized that sustainable, resilient, and inclusive communities cannot be achieved without guaranteeing equal rights, social inclusion, access to justice, and meaningful participation for all, especially the communities that are facing discrimination, neglection and exclusion.
Naveed Walter, President of HRFP, stated that representing in United Nations forums strengthened their global advocacy by providing an opportunity to present firsthand evidence, policy recommendations, and the voices of affected communities to international stakeholders. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the United Nations and the organizers for the opportunity and reaffirmed HRFP's commitment to advancing freedom of religion or belief, human rights, equality, peace, social inclusion, and the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda through international collaboration and advocacy efforts.
During one of the side events, Naveed Walter, President of HRFP, congratulated the United States and the American people on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. He emphasized that freedom of religion remains a cornerstone of American values and appealed the United States to continue its global leadership in advancing religious freedom and human rights, including in Pakistan.
