Faisalabad: The chairman of Pakistan Minority Teachers Association PMTA professor Anjum James Paul have written an open letter to Maryam Nawaz Chief Minister of Pakistan to implement notification about Christian Sikhs and other minorities prisoners at an earliest.

Professor Paul’s services for religious minority students in Schools and Colleges syllabus are valuable and landmark for his struggle for minorities.

SUBJECT:    REQUEST FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF NOTIFIED RELIGIOUS COURSES FOR CHRISTIAN, HINDU AND SIKH PRISONERS FOR REMISSION IN PUNISHMENT

Greetings and peace from Pakistan Minorities Teachers’ Association (PMTA).

Pakistan Minorities Teachers’ Association (PMTA) appreciates Government of the Punjab for introducing the Religious Courses on Christianity, Hinduism and Sikhism for Christian, Hindu and Sikh prisoners in the jurisdiction of the province of Punjab under Notification No. SO (MP) 11-5/2019(P-IV), dated 20.01.2023, published in the Gazette of the Government of Punjab, Law and Parliamentary Department on 25 January 2023. These courses have been designed for the spiritual and social inspiration and transformation of the prisoners so that they may become good citizens and be role model for others on completion of these courses.

Madam, the prisoners who complete the said Religious Courses shall be granted remission in punishment from 15 to 180 days. There is sad element that even after three years there has not been implementation of the said notification so far. Christian, Hindu and Sikh prisoners desire to be beneficiary of the Religious Courses for the spiritual and social nourishment and to have remission in their punishments. 

Pakistan Minorities Teachers’ Association requests you to kindly direct the concerned quarters to immediately implement the Religious Courses for Christian, Hindu and Sikh prisoners.

PMTA is making efforts since 2004 for education reforms through advocacy, lobbying and analyses on the textbooks of Pakistan to promote diversity and peaceful coexistence through the Pakistani education system.. Pakistani religious minorities are not enjoying fully constitutionally their civil and political rights and they are  facing challenges of equal citizenship, equal rights and equal opportunities. Due to religious persecution lives, beliefs, families and properties of religious minorities are always at risk. Pakistani public sector education system  promotes violence, intolerance, hatred and extremism through the language and images of the textbooks against non-Islamic religions, non-Muslims  and non-Islamic Civilizations. Thus Pakistani religious minorities become the direct target of the intolerance and extremism that Pakistani education system promotes.
