Gujranwala/Sargodha: November 5, 2008. (Jawad Mazhar reports for PCP) In a sad incident Hadayat Masih 28, resident of village # L 190/9 Sahiwal, a small town located near Sargodha city, died of drinking poisonous drink after being irked of non-payment of his outstanding salaries, revealed the autopsy report of his dead body.
In a separate peaceful demonstration Sanitary workers of Gujranwala city, the industrial hub of Pakistan and one of the biggest cities of Pakistan, demanded the immediate payment of their salaries blocked for months by the local Gujranwala authorities. Naib Nazim (Deputy Head of the Local Govt) Chaudhary Hassan Khan Munjh has directed to the District Officer (DO) solid waste management Mr. Aslam Baloch to pay all the outstanding salaries of the Christian Sanitary workers immediately.
Despite the two powerful and impressive peaceful demonstrations by the Christian Sanitary Workers of Sargodha led by ‘All Pakistan Minorities Alliance” (APMA), Christian Sanitary Workers (CSW) are still waiting for the payment of their out-standing salaries of four previous consecutive months.
It sad to say and obvious discrimination, that Muslim co-worker of the Christian Sanitary Workers received their full salaries on the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Fitr a couple of months. Whereas CSWs are still waiting. This is making the already impoverished Christians’ lives even more miserable.
