A Christian Underage Arrested in Blasphemy Case in Pakistan.

Toba Tak Singh: November 23, 2008. (PCP) A Christian named Rashid son of Salamat Masih aged 16 years has been arrested on 17th November 2008, under Blasphemy case in Toba Tak Singh. He was wanted in case registered vide First Information Report (FIR) No. 126 dated 1st April 2007, offence under section 295 A&C with police station City Toba Tak Singh. Rashid’s father Salamat Masih 42, and some other relatives are already detained in District Jail Toba Tak Singh in the same case. Background Rashid belongs to a poor Christian family residing at Bakhshi Park Toba Tak Singh. He used to help his father in his work of woodcutting. He has three brother and four sisters, he is the eldest son in family. On 1st April 2007, quarrel took place between Rashid’s younger brother and a Muslim guy of locality. That was Eid Melaad-al-Nabi (Prophet Mohammad’s Birthday) and hundreds of Muslims were gathered at near by ground to celebrate their Eid. The Muslim guy was having a sticker on his shirt-containing sentence “Yah Rasool Allah” (Mohammad Prophet to God). The sticker fell down in the ground during scuffle. The Muslims of the colony became aggressive and accused 5 Christians for insulting Mohammad’s name by throwing the sticker in ground. They also falsely accused Christians of passing derogatory remarks against Mohammad to make their case strong. The Muslims of the locality attacked on Christians, many Christians got injured. Salamat father of Rashid was arrested on the same day while other Christians fled away from the spot. Afterwards three Christians were also arrested in different times. Sharing Life Ministry Pakistan (SLMP) provided a rickshaw to Rashid, so that he can earn to meet with his daily needs. He often used to send small amount of his income to his family. Present Situation On 15th November 2008, Rashid went to see his relatives at Toba Tak Singh. It was his first visit after being implicated in blasphemy case and hiding to escape the arrest. He was longing to see his younger sister and some other close relatives. On 17th November 2008, somebody informed police about Rashid that he is standing in the street. Police raided over the spot and arrested Rashid. SLMP was scheduled to visit District Jail Toba Tak Singh on 18th November 2008. Team got shocked to see Rashid Masih in the jail. He was weeping so badly, it seemed that he has been tortured severely. The management did not allow SLMP team to talk with Rashid Masih.
