Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti laid to rest in his native village Khushpur

Faisalabad: March 4, 2011. (PCP) The Christian mourners laid to rest Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti in his native village Khushpur here today.

Hundreds of All Pakistan Minorities Alliance APMA activists have traveled from different parts of Punjab to participate in funeral services of their chief Shahbaz Bhatti, who was gunned down in Islamabad on March 2, 2011, when heading for cabinet meeting from his home. The Chief Minister Punjab was not present in funeral services of Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti in Khushpur on fear of Islamic extremists in Punjab while Muslim civil society activists participated in large number. Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Punjab and leader of Pakistan Muslim League PML(N) have also not participated in funeral services of Martyr Salman Taseer, Governor of Punjab in Lahore, who was assassinated by his bodyguard in capital Islamabad in January 4, 2011, on his campaign to seek pardon for Christian woman Asia Bibi, mother of five, sentenced to death on charges of blasphemy. The Islamists accused Salman Taseer to be blasphemer also on commenting against blasphemy law and issued Fatwa not to participate in his funeral. Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti raised voice to amend blasphemy law on which hard-line Islamists have threaten him to kill and sprayed 30 bullets to martyr him in Islamabad. The Pakistani Christians staged protests through Pakistan after assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti while Catholic Church of Pakistan and Church of Pakistan announced 3 days mourning, shutting down missionary schools. The Christian workers in different Municipal Corporations also went on strike condemning killing of Shahbaz Bhatti and demanded arrest of killers. Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti started his political carrier as Chairman Christian Liberation Front CLF from Faisalabad. He formed All Pakistan Minorities Alliance APMA during General Parvez Musharraf regime and decided to be ally of Pakistan Peoples Party PPP. Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti was nominated Member of National Assembly of Pakistan by Pakistan Peoples Party PPP in national general elections of 2008. He was raised to be Federal Minister for Minorities after Pakistan Peoples Party PPP formed government in Pakistan. He was 42 and unmarried when shot at in Islamabad and one chapter of Christian political struggle was closed on March 2, 2011, in Pakistan. Shahbaz Bhatti being a Christian was ill-treated in team of Feudal Lords and Bussiness Tycoons of Pakistan Peoples Party PPP federal cabinet and he traveled in reduce security with bulletproof car in Pakistan when he was under constant threats of Islamists. There were slogans of “arrest killers of Shahbaz Bhatti” during his funeral in Khushpur but every mourner knew that killers will never be arrests which made them more fearful in Pakistan. Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have urged government of Pakistan to form Judicial Commission headed by acting Supreme Court justice to probe in killing of Shahbaz Bhatti and to bring culprits to justice. Nazir Bhatti paid homage to services of Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti and his decade long struggle of rights of oppressed Pakistani Christians. “I condemn those elements who are trying to link martyrdom of Shahbaz Bhatti with Raymond Davis, a US Embassy official arrested in Pakistan because Shahbaz Bhatti is victim of blasphemy law and his killers expressed it with a handbill thrown on his bullet ridded body claiming to be Threek Taliban Punjab TTP”
