Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel – The Iron Man Who United the Soul of India. By Farooq Ganderbali

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, was not merely a political leader — he was the architect of national unity, the visionary who transformed India’s dream of oneness into reality. With courage, conviction, and clarity of purpose, he welded together a fragmented nation and gave India her unshakable identity.

He firmly believed that India’s true strength lies in her unity amidst diversity, where every citizen — regardless of faith or region — lives with dignity and pride. For Patel, the idea of India was not just a geographical entity, but a spiritual bond of brotherhood, harmony, and shared destiny.

A tireless advocate of women’s empowerment, self-reliance, and industrial progress, Sardar Patel’s life symbolized discipline, determination, and devotion to the motherland. Even in failing health, his resolve never wavered — he went on to integrate 565 princely states into one united India. His leadership ensured that the map of India remained whole, strong, and sacred.

When some princely states like Hyderabad, Junagadh, Bhopal, Travancore, and Kashmir resisted accession, Patel’s statesmanship prevailed. Using the principles of Sama, Dama, Dand, and Bhed, he united the nation without fear or favour. His actions proved that national integrity is not to be negotiated — it is to be safeguarded.

Had it not been for Sardar Patel, India might have been torn apart into fragments. His unwavering spirit and iron will prevented the balkanization of India and ensured the rise of a single, strong, and sovereign nation.

Every year, on 31st October, the nation celebrates Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) to honour this great son of India. Across the country — from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, from Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh — millions join the Run for Unity, carrying forward Patel’s timeless message: “Our strength lies in our unity; our future lies in our integrity.”

After the historic abrogation of Article 370, the people of Jammu and Kashmir celebrate this day with renewed spirit and national pride. For them, Unity Day is not just a commemoration, but a celebration of belonging — a reaffirmation that J&K stands inseparably with the rest of India. This day symbolizes hope, harmony, and a stronger bond with the nation.

The youth of Kashmir proudly say that they belong to the land of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel — the man who spent his life for religious unity, national integrity, and brotherhood. Today, people of J&K stand tall as citizens of a democratic, progressive, and united India, inspired by Patel’s dream of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.”

Sardar Patel’s legacy is eternal — a living flame reminding every Indian that unity is our greatest strength, and integrity our proudest virtue. As long as India stands united, the dream of Sardar Patel will continue to guide our destiny. (Farooq Ganderbali president voice for Peace and Justice)
