From Rubble to Refuge: Rebuilding Hope for Aslam Masih’s Family. Report by Juliet Chowdhry and Hannah Chowdhry
Raiwind, Pakistan: BACA stepped in to rebuild a stronger, safer home with stronger concrete roofing and solid foundations.
Next week, the family will finally return to their new house—a symbol of hope and resilience.
In July, tragedy struck a Christian family in Raiwind when relentless rains caused their modest home to collapse. The weakened foundation and cracked walls gave way, killing three family members: Meerab Aslam (8 years old), her grandmother Nasreen Bibi (60), and great-grandfather Bashir Masih (100). (Read more here)
The loss of both loved ones and their only home left Aslam Masih, his wife, two children, and two unmarried sisters homeless. With nowhere else to turn, they sought temporary shelter in the home of Aslam’s brother-in-law.
BACA attended the funeral, covering the burial costs, and immediately committed to rebuilding the family’s home from scratch.
Building Strong Foundations
Construction began on 6th August, but heavy monsoon rains delayed progress. After assessing the damage, BACA instructed the contractor to demolish the fragile walls and reconstruct the house with solid foundations, concrete roofing, and an elevated structure—ensuring it would withstand heavy rains and resist future water seepage.
The new home stands firm with stronger walls and foundations—built to protect the Masih family for years to come
Aslam Masih explained:
“Our house was built lower than the street, so rainwater could not drain away. We had to remove it by hand, using baskets. I am truly thankful to BACA for raising the ground level and rebuilding a much stronger home for us.”
Despite working as a sweeper in a private company, rebuilding such a home was far beyond Aslam’s financial means. He shared his gratitude:
“Without BACA’s support, I would never have been able to rebuild a safe home for my children and family. I am truly grateful to BACA and to the generous donors whose kindness made this possible. May God bless you all.”
Nearing Completion
25th August: RCC roofing completed.
5th September: Timber framework removed.
Immediately after: Electric wiring installed, followed by plastering of inner and outer walls.
This week: Flooring work is underway, with crushed bricks already layered in both rooms.
By next week, the family will finally move into their new home, a safe and lasting shelter after months of displacement.

Standing with Families in Crisis
Juliet Chowdhry, Trustee of British Asian Christian Association:
“This family lost everything in a single night—their loved ones and their home. Rebuilding their house was about more than bricks and mortar; it was about restoring dignity, hope, and a future. Thanks to our donors, we were able to give them a safe place to start again.”
This project is more than bricks and mortar—it represents hope, dignity, and the assurance that bereaved families are not forgotten.
But BACA can only continue to support vulnerable Christian families with the help of people like you.
