Islamabad: September 5, 2016. (PCP) Jamat Islami Pakistan Chief Senator Sirajul Haq led funeral prayers in absentia of hanged leader of Islamic Party of Bangladesh under war crimes committed during independence of Bangladesh.
Addressing funeral in absentia gathering in capital of Pakistan Mr. Sirajul Haq said that revolution is on doorstep of Bangladesh after incidents of hanging of Jamat Islami leaders by Sheikh Hassina government on verdicts issued by so-called War Crime Criminal Tribunal.
Moulana Qasim Ali was hanged after executions of Motiur Rehman Nizami, Abdul Qadir and Ch. Qadir for supporting Pakistan Army in 1971.
Moulana Qasim Ali, 63, financier of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, was executed on Saturday at Kashimpur Central Jail on the outskirts of the capital, for murder, confinement, torture and incitement to religious hatred during the war.
The execution took place amid a spate of militant attacks in the Muslim-majority nation, the most serious on July 1, when gunmen stormed a cafe in Dhaka's diplomatic quarter and killed 20 hostages, most of them foreigners.
The war crimes tribunal set up by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2010 has sparked violence and drawn criticism from opposition politicians, who say it is targeting her political foes. The government denies the accusations.
According to Bangladesh official figures about three million people were killed and thousands of women were raped during the nine-month war, in which some factions, including the Jamaat-e-Islami, opposed the breakaway and supported Pakistan Army.
