Islamabad: February 16, 2017. (PCP) Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), in a letter to Volodymyr Groysman, Prime Minister of Ukraine, expressed concern over the arson attack on a journalist Sergei Guz’s car by unknown perpetrators in the morning of February 12, 2017 in Kamianske (Dneprodzerzhinsk).
PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter urged the government of Ukraine to take decisive action and investigate the matter thoroughly and to ensure the safety of journalists so that they can perform their professional duties without any fear and hindrances.
According to International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), car was set on fire in Journalists residential his apartment’s courtyard. Local unions link the attack to professional activities and critical reporting on local authorities by his media outlets. Unions believe that it was a warning for all those who work honestly.
Guz is editor in chief of the newspaper Gorod 5692 and news website 5692.com.ua, in Kamianske city and a former president of Independent Media Trade Union of Ukraine.
According reports that in recent weeks, journalists and media have had pressure to prevent publication and to stop the investigation on local councils.
