HYDERABAD: August 22, 2017. (By Abbas Kassar) Rights Now Pakistan and Sindh Human Rights Defenders have expressed serious concern that the number of enforced disappearances of human rights activists, political workers and citizens were being reported across the country. This wave of disappearances has further increased in last few months particularly before 14th August 2017.
Addressing news conference here Monday, human rights leaders advocate Ali Malh, Zulfiqar Halepoto, Jabbar Bhatti said the frightening trend violates fundamental rights of citizens guaranteed by constitution of Pakistan, decisions of superior courts and international human rights law. More worrisome is the fact that these disappearances are being done reportedly by the law enforcement agencies. Families of disappeared citizens are passing through pain and are unaware of the whereabouts of their beloved ones, they added. They also provided list of enforced disappeared 167 persons.
They said more than 167 cases have been reported to them by different sources/channels. We love our country and we stand ready for its security. However, we believe that the person alleged of illegal act be produced before court of law where his whereabouts be disclosed to his/her family ensuring their fair trial. They said they have reported disappearances to ministry of interior, national commission for human rights, Sindh human rights commission, D.G. Rangers, I.G. Sindh and other authorities for immediate release of disappeared. Daughter of abducted Hidayat Lohar accompanied them.
