Hurricane Harvey continues to devastate South Eastern Texas

Voorhees, NJ: August 30, 2017. (PCP) Hurricane Harvey moved over the Texas Gulf Coast starting on Saturday August 26, 2017, breaking homes and ruining hundreds of thousands of businesses with 135 miles an hour wind and rain. By the time the rain stops some estimates are projecting over 50 inches of rain. Thousands of people are in stranded in Red Cross shelters, and any place which is on dry ground which are far and few. FEMA is overwhelmed as the work load trying to move people from unsafe areas to shelters is straining all resources. People have lost everything including all personal possessions and are literally living with the clothes they are wearing. Funds are desperately needed to help purchase supplies and provide resources for victims of this life-threatening flood emergency which is widespread, bringing to halt many large to mid-sized cities along the Gulf Coast. This catastrophe is even larger than Hurricane Katrina which hit New Orleans around the same time in 2005 costing billions. The American Sikh Council (ASC) humbly and fervently requests all the Sikhs and the sangats of all the Gurdwaras across our nation to either volunteer, donate funds to the Red Cross or any other legitimate charities and/or help arrange emergency supplies such as basic toiletries, dry snacks, water, etc. We Sikhs pray every day for ‘The Welfare of All’ so now is the time to step and follow through to help our fellow citizens in their time of need. The American Sikh Council (ASC) President Dr.Gurdas Singh stated, “My heart goes out to all those who have been impacted and made homeless. Our prayers are with all the people who are suffering through this terrible ordeal. On behalf of the American Sikh Council I am requesting all the Gurdwara leaders to contribute to help our Texan brothers and sisters.”
