Lahore; April 22, 2009. (PCP) The Catholic Bishops Conference in Pakistan very surprisingly shifts agenda to supports Pakistan Peoples Party PPP and leans toward Muthida Quami Movement MQM on Taliban style Sharia law in Pakistan. According to AsiaNews, Lawrence John Saldanha, archbishop of Lahore and president of the Pakistani bishops' conference, has sent an open letter to President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raza Gilani, and the Justice Minister of the government of the North-West Frontier Province, in which he stresses his "sorrow that your government has failed to take stock of the concerns of civil society" about the introduction of Islamic law into the Swat Valley. In a second letter, addressed to the head of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), Archbishop Saldanha expressed "appreciation" for the only party in parliament that has "opposed the introduction of Sharia in the Swat." "This contribution," the letter reads, "aimed to save the nation from falling into darkness, will always be remembered." It is on record that Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress issued a statement on April 13, 2009, and supported MQM on their stance on Shariat Regulation Bill in National Assembly of Pakistan and expressed reservations of millions of Pakistani Christian when Bishops Conference of Pakistan was silent and looking toward their political master in Pakistan Peoples Party PPP. The Catholic Bishops Conference voiced to abolish Separate Electorate for Christians on intimation of Pakistan Peoples Party PPP and ISI and demanded Joint Electorates which snatches voting rights of Christians to elect their members in parliament. The Catholic Bishops Conference scammed millions from welfare funds of poor Christians to establish their political wing and became successful to seek nomination of PPP selection of their favorites in National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies who abandoned Catholic clergy on Sharia law in recent weeks. The political wing of Catholic Bishops Conference issued a statement on January 16, 2009, against Nazir S. Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC and Editor of Pakistan Christian Post which was published by religion news outlets like UCAN, on PCC petition to UNO regarding refugee status for Pakistani Christians but in recent statements published in AsiaNews Bishops Conference admits mass migration of Christians from Swat and NWFP. Nazir S Bhatti urged Catholic Bishops Conference to support Pakistan Christian Congress PCC because PCC is only true voice of Christians and stands for rights of Pakistan Christians nor their political wing which refused to issue statement to express views of Catholic Church on Sharia laws in Pakistan. The Catholic Church and political wing of Bishops Conference very proudly announced selection of their foster Shahbaz Bhatti to be nominated as federal minister for minorities but he also hesitated to denounce Sharia law and PPP government.
