Peshawar: May 8, 2009. (PCP report) PCC Chief Dr. Nazir S Bhatti urged Federal Minority Ministry to set up separate camps for Christians, Sikhs and Hindus displaced from Swat, Malakand, Dir Upper, Dir Lower and Boneir districts after military operation against militants because minority community members are facing hardship for registration in refugee camps set up by government. One displaced Christian Yousaf Masih telephoned Pakistan Christian Congress PCC, President Nazir S Bhatti today from Peshawar and told him “The staff on registration duty appointed by government is not permitting them in camps on a plea that Muslim displaced families can not share food made for them which is prepared and distributed by them” Telling details Yousuf Masih said that government representatives in camps told them that if Christians want a tent then they have to do sanitation duty in camp and prepare their food separate. Yousaf Masih told that he traveled with five other families from Mangora city of Swat Valley to camps and now is in Peshawar with relatives. On a question, Yousaf Masih explained that some of us tried to talk to UN representatives but failed due to language problem because they can not understood or speak English language. Yousaf Masih told PCC Chief that there are hundreds of Christian families in Mangora city and many in other cities of Swat who were unable to flee because transport is very expensive and to some extent not available because trucks, Busses and other vehicles are used by Muslims to evict their families or friends or to higher bidder. It is fact that Muslims and Christians never dined in same utensils and same tables in NWFP from decades and such social curse prevailed which is causing difficulties for displaced Christian families. Nazir S Bhatti demanded government of Pakistan to make special arrangement to evict Christians from Swat Valley, Dir, Boneir and Malakand and set up camps for them. Pakistani Christian support government military operation to fight militancy and extremism in NWFP and termed it need of time. Nazir S Bhatti clarified that there are more than five hundred thousand Christians in NWFP who are facing hardship and fear. PCC demanded immediate support of displaced by Christian parliamentarians who are hesitant to travel from Islamabad to Peshawar to meet and calm effected families.
