Canada: May 24, 2009. (PCP) Raymond Durrani, a Political Strategists and Friends of Minorities of Pakistan in a statement said that we want rights, not quotas. Pakistan Peoples Party should return all the Christian Institutions it nationalized in 1971, and restore minority rights back to 1947 constitutional frame work. Quotas are lame duck excuse and it is difficult to fool 15 to 20 million Christian people of Pakistan , the largest minority under threat by the Extremists all the time. Mind your considering the other minorities like Hindus, Ahamdies Mirzaies and others, Christians would only end up with may be, 13%. One could make nothing of this announcement. If the government would have announced an overseer body in place at the same time then may be it would have some merit. Formation of a commission to oversee such project would have given some level of acceptance. It is just a political hocus pocus announcement which is being proclaim and credit by some one. It is an old thought which was resurrected by this government to justify their claim of protecting minorities in Pakistan who are now questioning the foreign governments giving financial aid. What was distributed to the media while making an announcement? Was there a document handed out listing the framework and implementation of the project, which I wouldn’t go as far and call it a policy announcement? If there was one, I would like to have copy of it. No announcement would ever be made by an organized government without having something in writing, documenting and distributing it to the media. This announcement was to accommodate a few of the strings attached to the foreign aid given by the United States of America about 5 billion, Canada about 100 million and a few other countries somewhere in the vicinity of 2 billion. It was just a political stunt the government in place is playing by using the minority issue. Why the Prime minister didn’t use the opportunity and went on the national television network and made an announcement himself.
