The Corruption is threat to good governance in Sindh: Abadgars

LARKANA: June 18, 2009. (Nazir Siyal reports for PCP) A corruption in government department has threatened the good governance, sustainable development, democratic process and fair business practices. This was said by various society representatives’ Abadgars and common men in Larkana on Thursday. According to the survey, most of the people revealed that the bureaucratic corruption, which is the common use of governmental powers by government officials for illegitimate private gain in various departments including the Irrigation, Highway, Drainage, Works and Services developments including the Roads, Building constructions, Education, WAPDA and other concerned departments. Talking to this scribe Sahib Khan told that the government officials and concerned representatives are the responsible in the departments, they have become the millenniors and billionaires due to the misuse of government power for other purposes, and commonly involve in the bribery, extortion, cronyism, nepotism, patronage, graft, and embezzlements of billions but no role of NAB, Muhatasib (Ombudsman) or anti-Corruption, which is people code it as Aunty Corruption. During a survey by this scribe, the Officials obviously remarked that there is no one to hang or punish them. Another activist Lal Bux said an illegal act by an office holder constitutes political corruption only if the act is directly related to their official duties. Simultaneously corruption may facilitate criminal enterprise such as land mafia, drug trafficking, money laundering, and other kinds of illegalities, which are not restricted to these organized crime activities. He said the corruption which is not common in our society but the education and poverty alleviation is increasing day by day. Ultimately the end point of political corruption will be the destruction of departments and society. Pervez told that the corruption poses a serious development challenges specially in the Works and Services and Irrigation development, which is back bone of the country or region, the agriculture sector was knock down and abandoned the rice crop in Larkana due to negligence of local administration and authorities of agriculture department in Larkana. Panjal Khan said, in the political realm and current scenario of Larkana development undermines democracy and good governance by flouting or even subverting formal processes, due to the illegalities in development work. Because the corruption in elections and in legislative bodies reduces accountability and distorts representation in policymaking; corruption in the judiciary compromises the rule of law and corruption in public administration results in the unfair provision of services. More generally, corruption erodes the institutional capacity of government as procedures are disregarded, resources are siphoned off, and public offices are bought and sold, at the same time corruption undermines the legitimacy of government and such democratic values as trust and tolerance in Larkana and other areas. Ibrahim on the occasion said, we cannot deny, the politicians along with all should accept that professionalism in politics and every field is dying entity, on the occasion, the enlightened people of society in Larkana collectively demands of the elected representatives, government institutions and related authorities to avoid such practices in future, otherwise the future generation will not forgive our deeds, as
