Catholic Unity Congress closes in Kuwait

KUWAIT: November 17, 2009 (Jochanj for PCP) The pastoral Council organized a Catholic Unity Congress in Kuwait Cathedral concluded with a press conference on 13 November 2009 with Bishop Camillo Ballin the head of the Catholic Church in Kuwait. The Congress was held with a view to foster greater unity among the catholic faithful and had the theme, ‘Come Let us Celebrate Him.’ The Kuwait Catholic Church is consisted of the Roman, Coptic, Marionite, Syro Malabar and Syro Malankara rites. About four hundred representatives of the 350,000 Catholics in Kuwait attended the congress. During the concelebrated mass Bishop Ballin spoke of the different groups and languages, and different ways in which the Eucharist is being celebrated in this one and unified church. He said that the Catholics are one in the body of Christ in worship and faith. According to him the Congress was held once again for the second time to declare the love and unity existing among the various rites within the Catholic fold. Several inter religious speakers spoke of the relations between Catholicism and other major religions in the world. The various rites including the oriental churches such as the Marionite, Coptic, Syro Malabar and Syro Malankara Churches consider Bishop Ballin as their head in Kuwait. Speaking at the Press Conference Bishop Ballin said that the objective of the congress is to create awareness that the rites are one and united in the Lord and declare that love and unity to the world. He said that the congress carried a healthy, friendly and meaningful atmosphere in which discussions were held that were educational in nature. “ We talk only internal religious subjects” he added. An Exhibition also was held in the church premises of the various rites, their rich culture, customs, and traditions.
