Washington DC: December 7, 2009. (PCP) This Thursday is International Human Rights Day, which marks the 61st anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Among the many local events planned in commemoration of Human Rights Day is The Human Rights Day News Conference at the National Press Club. Sponsored by Responsible for Equality and Liberty (R.E.A.L.) a global, all-volunteer human rights advocacy organization, the Human Rights Day Conference promises to be an enlightening and thought-provoking event. Keeping with this year’s Human Rights Day theme of nondiscrimination, four notable human rights activists will discuss religious, racial, ethnic, and gender equality while highlighting the human rights challenges of women and children and emphasizing the importance of greater individual responsibility in defending universal human rights. Features panelists include Jeffrey Imm of R.E.A.L., Dr. Nazir Bhatti of the Pakistan Christian Congress, Ashraf Ramelah of The Voice of the Copts, and Lisa Tao, Falun Dafa (Falun Gong). Following the panel discussion, and dependent on favorable weather conditions, everyone is invited to a Public Outreach Gathering, planned at Freedom Plaza from 4:30-6pm.
