A Pakistani Bishop goes in hiding

Karachi: January 27, 2010 (COP) Bishop Sadiq Daniel is on run from the Police since the passage of his arrest orders by the Sindh High Court. he order was announced by Mr. Justice Shahid Anwer Bajwa on Monday, 25th Jan 2010 in a criminal revision application filed against the order whereby he was granted pre-arrest bail in year 2006 in a case pertaining to outraging the modesty of a woman. On 11th April 2005, bishop Sadiq Daniel along with a large contingent of notorious elements forcibly entered ‘Brenton Carey Girls Hostel’ (an institution of Karachi Diocese - Church of Pakistan) with intention to occupy the same, outraged the modesty of the lady administrator namely Mrs. Ghazala Shafique by stripping her publicly and physically thrashed her after manhandling. The FIR of the incident was lodged vide FIR No. 169 of 2005 at Frere Police Station on the directions of the Court. Where after Sadiq Daniel had obtained pre-arrest bail vide order dated 4.1.2006. The said order was assailed by the Complainant in the Sindh High Court by filing a criminal revision application, which came up for hearing on 3rd Dec 2009. The complainant Mrs. Ghazala Shafique was represented before the Court by Barrister Benysh Qureshi, while the respondent Sadiq Daniel and co-accused persons were represented by Dr. Naseem Farogh Advocate and Mr. Shauqat H. Zubedi Advocate. The Court after extensive hearing on 3rd Dec 2009 reserved the judgment which was announced in Court on 25th Jan 2010 whereby pre-arrest bail of Sadiq Daniel and 3 other co-accused namely Shahzer Shamoun, George Bhatti and Claventina Burdge has been cancelled.
