LAHORE, Pakistan: Three years after the devastating Jaranwala tragedy, the pain of the affected Christian community remains deeply felt, while the
Gujranwala: Amir Masih, a Christian from Dhala Sharif, near Nowshera Virkan in District Gujranwala, was arrested on 11 August 2026 following a blasphemy allegation relating to a video reportedly shared on TikTok. Amir is the son of Emmanuel Masih.
According to a police document, FIR No. 1189/26 was registered at Police Station Nowshera Virkan on 11 August 2026 under Sections 295-A, 295-C and 298 of the Pakistan Penal Code. These are extremely serious religious-offence provisions carrying severe legal consequences.
The complaint was submitted by Sajjad Mustafa and supported by Rizwan Ali and Muhammad Ramzan. All three are reportedly residents of Dhala Sharif.
The complainants alleged that at approximately 11:00 a.m. on 10 August 2026, they were present at Arshad PCO in Dera Chowk when Amir arrived. They accused him of making remarks they considered religiously offensive.
The complaint also refers to a video allegedly shared through the TikTok account “@amir.khokhar56”. According to the FIR, the video contained Christian and Islamic religious imagery accompanied by a Punjabi dialogue that the complainants interpreted as making a religious comparison.
The precise meaning of the video depends on its full content, context and presentation. We have therefore not reproduced the alleged remarks or Punjabi dialogue in this report because they may cause offence and have not been independently verified.
It is important to emphasise that these are allegations recorded in a police complaint. The registration of an FIR does not establish Amir’s guilt. The complete original video, its purpose, its wider context and Amir’s explanation have not yet been independently examined or verified.
Following the accusation, tension reportedly increased in Dhala Sharif as a group of people gathered and allegedly threatened to damage Amir’s home. Several Christian families temporarily left their homes as a precaution, while Amir’s family was reportedly moved to a safer location and is believed to be safe.
Police responded promptly and remained vigilant in the area, helping to prevent the situation from escalating into violence. According to the information currently available, no member of the local Christian community was physically harmed, and there have been no confirmed reports of widespread destruction of Christian property.
Local reports indicate that the timely police response helped avert a potentially serious incident. The situation is now reported to be peaceful and under control. Amir remains in police custody. His arrest was also reported by the Urdu newspaper Daily Dunya.
We appreciate the prompt and vigilant response of the police, whose intervention appears to have protected local Christian families and prevented further escalation. We continue to pray for peace in the area, for the safety of Amir and his family, and for a fair and impartial investigation in which all available evidence, including the original video and its full context, is carefully examined.
This report is based on preliminary information currently available to us. We are continuing to verify the facts and collect further details, which will be shared as soon as they become available.
