Threats to activists of one Christian NGO on supporting blasphemy victim

Lahore: October 21, 2016. (PCP) One Christian NGO named LEAD issues a press note here today that its activists were threatened to burnt alive by unknown religious extremists after their attempts to seek forgiveness from Muslim religious leaders to one blasphemy victim Nabeel Masih. Nabeel Masih aged 16 years was accused of blasphemy on linking and sharing photo of “Khana Kaba” on his Facebook page on which he was arrested and Muslim extremists threatened to lynch him when he was produced in court for hearing. Aneeqa Maria Advocate who heads The Voice Society and providing legal services to Nabeel Masih faced threats during court hearing when Muslims gathered in court compound and chanted slogans against her and demanding “Death” for blasphemy victim. On October 13, 2016, when one Christian lawyer and part of ruling Muslim party appeared in Supreme Court of Pakistan as supporting attorney in Asia Bibi appeal hearing against death sentence on blasphemy charges was followed by unknown people when driving out of SC Building. According to LEAD, On Saturday 15 October,2016 at about 8:30 pm, LEAD's fact finding mission consisting of Intzar Gill, field coordinator and Qaiser Younas, clerk, reached at Chak 66 Dina Nath, Bhai Pheru for convincing to local Muslims to forgive Nabeel Masih to meet one local Muslim human rights defender Akbar Ali Rahat, who heads Muslim Friends Foundation in District Kasur. They met with the complainant and some other local Muslims of the area and they were very furious and angered. The LEAD's mission returned unsuccessful and when they reached at Multan Road near Manga Mandi bypass, they were stopped by some unknown persons who threaten them to burn alive. Nabeel Masih was arrested and charged under sections 295/295A under the Pakistan Penal Code and his first bail petition was dismissed.
